Melissa Stewart has over a decade of experience working in the contemporary art world in New York, London and California. Melissa founded Melissa Stewart & Co in 2013 with a mission to provide art consulting services, art collection management and art appraisal services to clients who wish to build or maintain contemporary art collections. In addition, Melissa Stewart & Co provides consulting services to artists and galleries and is currently consulting on the development of a 5,000 square foot ground floor gallery space in New York for a client.

Melissa graduated with a B.A. in Art History from Columbia University and later earned a J.D. with a concentration in Intellectual Property from the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University in New York. Throughout her career, Melissa has held positions at the David Zwirner Gallery, New York in sales and at the Tina Kim Gallery, New York where she traveled internationally regularly to represent the galleries at art fairs, auctions and biennials. While attending law school, Melissa held positions at Christie’s London in the Art Law Group and at the Whitney Museum of American Art’s General Counsel’s office.

In addition, Melissa has trained as a fine art appraiser in Contemporary Art since 2008 and is Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices (USPAP) certified.

In addition to her work as an advisor and appraiser, Melissa serves as co-chair of the Acquisitions Committee of the International Center of Photography and co-chairs and co-founded the annual Spotlights lecture fundraiser for ICP. Melissa additionally devotes her time to the Moai Circle Steering Committee for young patrons of the World Monuments Fund and is a member of the Director’s Circle of the Japan Society in New York.
